A secluded outdoor retreat designed for cooking, lounging and entertaining. Surrounded by dense greenery and natural materials, this garden blends rustic charm with modern comfort, creating a warm, welcoming space for year-round use.
The Brief
The client wanted a multifunctional garden that felt private, inviting and practical for outdoor cooking and socialising. They were looking for an outdoor kitchen, cosy seating, atmospheric lighting and a layout that made the most of the garden’s natural enclosure.
Our Approach
We designed a garden that balances functionality with relaxation, using warm materials, layered textures and subtle zoning:
Outdoor Kitchen Area

Dome-shaped wood-fired pizza oven with a metal chimney, set on a rustic timber counter.

Integrated gas grill built into the same wooden structure for a seamless, practical cooking zone.

Ample log storage beneath the counters, enhancing the rustic aesthetic and keeping fuel close at hand.

Stainless-steel patio heater positioned nearby, allowing the space to be enjoyed throughout the year.

Flooring transitions from smooth stone tiles into timber decking to visually define the cooking area.
Decking & Surfaces -
Mix of wet-look smooth stone tiles and wooden decking following recent rainfall, giving the area a natural, textured look.

Surfaces chosen to create a warm, inviting flow between the kitchen and lounge zone
Lounge Area -
Wicker-style outdoor sofas and armchairs arranged around a central focal point for relaxed seating.

Cushions and thoughtfully placed potted plants adding comfort and softness.

Seating situated on warm-toned stone paving to subtly distinguish it from the neighbouring cooking area.
Lighting & Finishing Touches -
String lights woven through the space to create a soft, ambient glow during the evening.

Decorative lantern positioned near the walkway to enhance the cosy, welcoming atmosphere.
The Result
The completed garden feels immersive, private and perfectly designed for entertaining. The combination of rustic timber, warm stone surfaces and lush surrounding greenery creates a serene outdoor haven. The outdoor kitchen and lounge area are seamlessly connected yet individually defined, making the space ideal for gatherings, relaxation and year-round enjoyment.
